5v5 flag football play
Out Up
You've thrown the quick out five times; now the same picture turns into a sideline shot when the defender finally cheats. Tell your players: 'Run the out exactly like always — the fake only works if it's identical.'
How to run it
- 1
WR2: snap the out at four and show the QB your hands — the defender has to believe it's the quick out you've run all game.
- 2
The 'up' is vertical, not a banana — plant the outside foot, get skinny up the sideline, and leave room for the ball inside the boundary.
- 3
QB: small pump on the out, then loft it early — this throw is about air under the ball, not arm strength.
Who the quarterback reads
- 1. Z
- 2. X
- 3. Y
The out-and-up is the designed shot — the QB looks there first because the whole play is built to bait one defender who has been jumping the out.
The concepts in this play
- Double move
- Fake one route and run another — a hitch-and-go, a sluggo. Saved for a defender who's started jumping the first move.
- Downfield
- A vertical route that stretches the defense deep. Even when it isn't the throw, it clears space for everything underneath.
Who should run it
Advanced. Experienced or high-school rosters. Timing-dependent — rep it before you call it on Saturday.
