5v5 flag football play
Hitch Go
Run hitches all game, then run this — the defender who finally jumps the hitch gets run past. Tell your players: 'The sit is the trick; rush the hitch and nobody bites.'
How to run it
- 1
WR2: make the hitch real — snap your head and hands back to the QB, sit for one full beat, then explode past the defender's ear.
- 2
QB: give a small pump on the hitch, then let the go route travel — throw to the open grass in front of the sideline, not to her body.
- 3
Everyone else stays shallow on purpose — WR3's drag and C's sit keep the underneath defenders from sinking beneath the deep ball.
Who the quarterback reads
- 1. Z
- 2. X
- 3. Y
The hitch-and-go is the play's reason to exist: the QB stares down the hitch to bait the defender, so her eyes are already where the go route opens.
The concepts in this play
- Double move
- Fake one route and run another — a hitch-and-go, a sluggo. Saved for a defender who's started jumping the first move.
- Downfield
- A vertical route that stretches the defense deep. Even when it isn't the throw, it clears space for everything underneath.
Who should run it
Advanced. Experienced or high-school rosters. Timing-dependent — rep it before you call it on Saturday.
