5v5 flag football play
Smash Spot
The spot concept turns coverage into geometry — a high-low-wide triangle on one side of the field. Tell your players: 'Corner stretches deep, flat stretches wide, spot sits in the middle of the mess.'
How to run it
- 1
This is a triangle: corner high, spot sitting at five, flat stretching wide — three points, two defenders, someone is open.
- 2
WR2: burst to five like a slant, then throttle and sit in the window — show the QB your numbers.
- 3
QB: corner first off the deep defender; then the flat defender can't be right — she widens with C, hit the spot; she sits on the spot, C is running free.
Who the quarterback reads
- 1. Y
- 2. C
- 3. Z
The corner is checked first because it's the one-glance deep answer; after that the triangle reduces to one underneath defender who can't cover both the spot and the flat.
The concepts in this play
- Smash
- A short hitch underneath a deep corner route over the same defender. He can't cover both; the QB throws off whichever one he leaves open.
Who should run it
Developing. Teams with a season together, or middle-school age. A couple of reps to lock the spacing in.
