5v5 flag football play
Quick Slants
Slants are the fastest completion in football — three steps, one throw, and your receiver is running through open grass. Install it day one and call it whenever you need calm.
How to run it
- 1
Receivers: three quick steps, then plant and slant — win the defender's inside shoulder in your first three steps.
- 2
QB: pick your slant before the snap based on the softest defender, and throw before the routes cross the hashes.
- 3
Throw it chest-high and in front — the receiver should never have to slow down to catch a slant.
Who the quarterback reads
- 1. X
- 2. Z
- 3. Y
WR1 is listed first, but the working rule is simpler: the QB picks the slant with the softest defender before the snap and throws it on rhythm.
The concepts in this play
- Slants
- Quick routes breaking inside at a 45° angle. The fastest way to move the ball and the best answer to a hard rush.
- Quick game
- Three-step routes thrown on rhythm. The ball is out of the QB's hand before the rush can arrive — great for a young line.
Who should run it
Beginner. New teams and younger players (roughly grades 3–5). Teachable in a single practice.
